SSD
- Largest WM Congress in Southern Asia-Pacific Division
The South Philippine
Union Conference, under the leadership of Pleny Camagay, held a
union-wide WM congress at Mountain View College (MVC), March 11-15,
2003. More than 2,500 women registered for this huge gathering.
It is the largest WM gathering in the division territory. Women
came in jeeps, buses, trucks, cars, and motor bikes. Hundreds of
tents were set up to house these women and the husbands and children
who came along too.
Linda Koh (SSD
WM director) and Dr. Kathleen Kuntaraf (GC Health Ministries) were
the main plenary speakers, presenting topics on Professional Appearance,
Problem Solving and Decision Making, Menopause, Understanding Women,
and other relevant topics. There were also breakout seminars for
single women, wives, and others groups.
The weekend
coincided with the first visit of the GC president, Elder Jan Paulsen,
who flew into MVC on President Gloria Arroyo’s personal helicopter.
He was given a big welcome with cultural dances and other performances.
This was the highlight of the weekend.
The WM leaders
had inspiring reports of how God has used women in evangelism, prison
ministry, and reclaiming the discouraged. We praise God for the
women of SSD who have discovered their gifts of ministry.

SUD
- Weaving Centre
The women at
Siddabari Weaving Centre weave (dhofena) a particular type of dress
that the Boro women wear. Two teachers train the women in the art
of weaving. They plan to start another centre at Panbari. One group
of women are already trained in tailoring. This enables the women
to support their families financially.

Pastor’s
Wife Plans Women’s Meeting
Nearly 70 Adventist and non-Adventist women attended the women’s
meeting on December 16, 2002 organized by Mrs. Gladys Jones, the
church pastor’s wife. She reported it was a wonderful sight
to see all the women in green uniform sarees. The meeting started
with a lively song service. Messages were given by Flora John, South
India Union WM director, and Huldah Paulasir, South Tamil Conference
WM director. After the meeting all the ladies participated in games
that reminded them of their childhood days. Twenty poor women were
given groceries and a dinner was served. It was the first meeting
of this kind at Prakasapuram. It was a great blessing to all who
attended.

Witness
I visited Usilampatti church on March 1, 2003, along with my husband,
the conference president. Sabbath services were conducted by the
women. The sermon was presented by six women and many others gave
testimonies.
One newly married
Hindu lady, Mrs. Shanti, witnessed that she had had three miscarriages.
She and her family were very distressed by this. One day she called
for the principal’s wife, Mrs. Celina Arulkoil, to pray for
her. Mrs. Koil and one of the teachers, Ms. Packiathai, visited
her. She asked them to pray for a child, and she began reading the
Bible every day even though she had to hide it. Many times our sisters
went to her house and prayed and God heard their prayers and gave
Mrs. Shanti a baby girl. On March 1st she brought the child to the
church and told of God’s goodness. She wants to come to church
every week, but she is not getting permission from her family members.
Our sisters are earnestly praying for her.
After the service,
all the ladies and their children had potluck. All enjoyed the program
and the fellowship lunch. In the afternoon all the women gathered
again in the church and they prayed for many special requests.

Care
Baskets – The Edmond Church WM department,
in the Southwestern Union, NAD, recently began a new project. Their
focus was to reach young adults in the church who are away in college
or away from their homes as student missionaries. Their goal is
to provide a safe place for these young people who are away from
home and many times in a secular college/university environment
but who are in need of a church family.
As a result,
the WM created a care package project. Last Thanksgiving they packed
boxes with homemade cookies, candies, and other goodies, along with
a note of encouragement. Since most of the students were unable
to travel home for the holidays the packages were very appreciated.
The women were able to give the students a little bit of home where
they were. (Taken from the Southwestern Union Record, 2/03)

Baby-Sitting
Ministry
- The idea is simple: women in your church who are able to assist
with baby-sitting services baby-sit for moms of young children so
that they can attend WM meetings and other events from time to time.
This is also ideal for single moms.
Baby
Gift Bag
- Women of the Saulte Ste. Marie SDA Church, Michigan, USA, have
started a baby gift bag at the local hospital. They take two bags
each month to the hospital, one for a boy and one for a girl. There
is a reply card inside and the mothers who receive these bags can
send in to receive a gift for their baby’s first birthday.
The gift is a small set of Bible stories. This is a wonderful outreach
idea for your WM group.
