Women in Women’s Ministries
Evelyn
Glass—A Woman with a Passion for Service
|
|
Evelyn
Glass retired as WM director for the Mid-America Union, NAD, in March
of this year after serving 17 years in the area of women’s ministries.
From earliest childhood Glass had a strong desire to know more about
God but came from a family that had no religious affiliation. Then one
morning her father decided to take the entire family, including mother
and her five siblings, to visit the Adventist church in Glenwood, Minnesota.
A year after that first visit found Evelyn involved in church activities.

Glass
met her husband, Darrell, while teaching at a church school in
Thief River Falls. They have been married for 46 years and have
three children, Peggy, Rodney and Judy.
Through the
years Glass has been very active in church work and has held every
position with the exception of treasurer. In 1986 her work with
WM began when she accepted the position of women’s commissioner
for the Mid-America Union having no idea what was expected of
her. She soon learned that the commission was to be a “bridge
of communication between women in the pews and the North America
Division.” As a result of this work the women’s ministry
program started in this union.
Glass enjoys
speaking and writing and has written a book called Joyous
Christmas Traditions; she gave some of the profits to the
GCWM scholarship fund for Adventist women world wide. She also
writes a column for her local newspaper that covers topics of
family interest and concerns and has written for the GCWM Leadership
Certification program. |
Of
her work with WM Glass says, “It has been such a joy to see women
rededicate their lives to God or accept Jesus for the first time. It
has been a blessing.” She is highly spoken of by her colleagues
and is respected for her many years of dedicated service and leadership
to WM even before it was an officially established department of the
Adventist church
