Uplink Training
for Women's Ministries
Women's Ministries
will conduct a two hour discipleship training via satellite June
21, 2001 from Mwanza, Tanzania. The training is targeted especially
to the women of Africa and India and will use women from those areas
as trainers.
The video will
be uplinked in conjunction with an evangelistic meeting conducted
by Jere Patzer, president of the NAD North Pacific Union. His meetings
will be uplinked June 16 to July 7.
Women will be
able to participate in the training by watching it on June 21 or
by recording the video and showing (and re-showing) it in any venue
at any future time.
"This is especially
beneficial for us because all the camera equipment and translators
will already be on location in Mwanza, thus vastly cutting down
on our expenses" notes Ardis Stenbakken. "We are especially grateful
for this."
Stenbakken notes
that discipleship has always been of great concern to Women's Ministries.
"Helping new members become full, mature church members has always
been important, but it is especially so when so many members join
the church through satellite or mass evangelism. And women have
always been good at making this happen. This training will just
reinforce tested techniques that may have been overlooked."
This video will
be the first ever sponsored by GCWM.. -end

A
Celebration of Women Coming to Maryland in March
A Celebration
of Women, focusing on the triumphs and needs of women in all the
world's divisions, will be held March 30 and 31. This special program
will be at the end of the Department of Women's Ministries World
Advisory. All of the 12 division and attached union WM directors
should be attending this Advisory and will participate in the Celebration.
The Celebration
will be held in the General Conference headquarters auditorium beginning
Friday evening at 7:00 and the Sabbath program will run from 9 a.m.-12
noon and 2-5 p.m. A special feature of this celebration will be
a prayer offensive led by Ruthie Jacobsen and a group of young adult
women and teen women. There will be spectacular music and on the
spot reports of the wonders God has been performing for and through
women.
Women everywhere
are invited to attend but it is especially hoped that women from
all over the Columbia Union will take advantage of this unique opportunity.
"In Toronto, at the General Conference Session, the Women of Spirit
segment of the WM meetings were especially popular," notes Lynnetta
Hamstra. "This will be a full program featuring such women and accomplishments."
Because of the
nature of the schedule and location, no hotel arrangements are being
provided. If attendees want information on local hotels, they may
contact our office. More details will be available next issue. -end

Evangelistic
Sponsorship Opportunities Available
Pastor Robert
Folkenberg is working with the divisions to conduct evangelistic
meetings in the next several years. The funding he has raised, along
with resources from the church organizations, underwrites the pre-crusade
witnessing work and funding for basic crusade expenses. He is inviting
both pastors, laywomen, and men to experience the joy of going as
evangelists and preaching their own crusades.
Two women are
going to Costa Rica this month with Folkenberg to conduct crusades.
These reaping meetings are two weeks/three weekends long. Folkenberg
will provide each guest evangelist easy-to-use, ready-to-preach,
sermon notes and coordinated graphics for those who wish to use
them or can bring a laptop computer and video projector. If you
are interested in this adventure for the Lord, all you have to supply
is funding to cover your own travel, room, and board.
These meetings
are being coordinated with respective church leaders to ensure ample
pre-crusade preparation. The local laypeople who have been working
with interests will be primarily responsible for visitation during
the crusade while the guest evangelist will be responsible for speaking
and assisting with visitation.
The sites planned
for 2001 are Ghana in early March, and Venezuela in mid-October.
In 2002 crusades are planned for Cuba in January, for Kenya in March,
and for 16 countries of West Africa in the 3rd quarter. If you are
interested in details and speaking in one of these localities, please
contact General Conference Women's Ministries at 301-680-6608 or
womensministries@gc.adventist.org.
"I think this
is a real opportunity for women, " says Ardis Stenbakken. "This
could be a rare opportunity for many women pastors, especially who
often do not have occasion or funding for full scale evangelistic
meetings." -end

Letter
to WM
Dear
Friends,
Just
this last Sabbath I was voted to be the Women's Ministries leader
for 2001 for the Grantham church in England. I decided to check
out what you might have available on the internet. What a wealth
of information, and links to other sites! Even a program for the
Women's World Day of Prayer next March. Thanks so much, and keep
it rolling.
I
pray God will bless us all as we assist our women. I have to select
a committee to assist me in my work. Please add your prayer to mine
that God will show me who are the best helpers.
Be
of good courage, and He will direct your paths.
With
love from a Christian sister,
(by

All Divisions
Have Women's Ministries Leadership in Place
We are happy that all divisions have now met in their year-end meetings
and all have again placed women in leadership in Women's Ministries.
These
are talented, informed, and caring women who are there to help you
in your Women's Ministries programs. Please contact them for leadership
training, advice, resources, and support.
All division directors will be meeting at the General Conference
headquarters March 26-31, 2001 for a World Advisory. Any advisory
is held for all departments once a quinquennium. This is the second
time that all the WM directors have been able to meet together for
training and planning. Seven of these directors are new or
were not at the Advisory in 1996 so this will be especially valuable.

As
you think about the New Year and making resolutions, think about
this....
We Are All Beautiful
Women. Did you know ...
- If shop mannequins
were real women, they'd be too thin to menstruate.
- There are
3 billion women who don't look like super models and only eight
who do.
- Marilyn
Monroe wore a size 14.
- If Barbie
was a real woman, she'd have to walk on all fours due to her proportions.
- The average
American woman weighs 144 lbs. and wears between a size 12 and
14.
- One out
of every four college-aged women has an eating disorder.
- The models
in the magazines are airbrushed they're not perfect.
- A psychological
study in 1995 found that three minutes spent looking at models
in a fashion magazine caused 70% of women to feel depressed, guilty,
and shameful.
- Models twenty
years ago weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today they weigh
23% less.
Enjoy
2001. God has made you special!
