Women in Ghana encouraged to invest in their Children's Education (WAD)

A four-day Women’s Ministries retreat was held at Nkoranza in Ghana’s Brong-Ahafo Region on December 24 in which Ghanaian women were advised to invest in their children’s education, especially their daughters so that the development of women would be enhanced. The advice was given by Mrs Joyce Boahen, Nkoranza District Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). She also pointed out that poverty was due in part to their inability to acquire adequate skills and knowledge to enable them to secure good employment .

Appealing to the men, Boahen urged them to respect the rights of women. She also urged abolishment of widowhood rites, female genital mutilation and child betrothal. The women were implored not play second fiddle to married men, to treat the house help with dignity, and to respect their husbands and support them in the management of their homes.

Pastor Martin Appiah Kyeremeh called on members to adhere to the laws and teachings of the Church and reiterated that the SDA Church: “does not encourage multiple marriages or divorce.” Pastor Daniel K. Marri said the Church blessed marriages properly contracted under the accepted marriage laws of the country including those by ordinance or custom.
